Project Haibung

Project Haibung is an initiative to rebuild Haibung Mahadevstan Secondary School in a village named Haibung in Sindupalchowk, Nepal. This largest school in Haibung turned to rubble during the April 25th mega-earthquake. The estimated cost of this project is US $73,000.

As a team of motivated and like-minded Nepali youth, Project Haibung team, along with our partners, is determined to raise US $73,000 by leveraging our resources/ networks. 100% of the funds raised will be used directly toward rebuilding the Haibung Mahadevstan School, benefitting over 500 children in Haibung.

Goals/Mission

  • Build a high quality, earthquake-resistant school and to provide continual educational support that drives creativity and serves as a template for other rebuilding projects in Nepal.
  • Reach out to donors to reach the funding goal of US $73,000.
  • Establish long-term partnerships with local communities through school building project.
  • Serve as a liaison between donors, Architects Without Borders (Austria), the building contractor, volunteers, the site supervisor and overseer, and local communities.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of the rebuilding project and its impact on the local community.

Why Haibung VDC in Sindhupalchowk?

  • Haibung is one of the most densely populated VDCs in Sindupalchowk (home to ~576 families).
  • About 95% of houses are collapsed, including the only health post and VDC office.
  • All 5 schools have also collapsed, leaving about 720 students without school buildings.
  • Haibung village is 3 hours drive from Kathmandu on a dirt road which is accessible via motorbikes, trucks/SUVs. Logistically, exection of the project is viable given the Project Haibung's human capital.
