Summary

Pilot phase of sustainable pest-free greenhouse community farming project in Nuwakot through a joint collaboration of Nepal Rising Seattle and Tatoosh Family Hiking Group, Seattle. The goal of this project is to provide sustainable food security and nutrition to earthquake-hit families and support their resilience efforts.

  • Food security and nutrition with 1.5-3 tonnes of fresh vegetables in multiple harvests a year
  • Farming training and technical support for better farming outputs
  • Income generation by selling extra vegetables in nearby markets

Project Goals

  • 17 varieties of non-GMO seeds that can be cultivated during monsoon and post monsoon seasons
  • 20 kg of micro-organism-enriched compost (Trichocompost) for healthy seedlings
  • 5 greenhouses alongside open farming 
  • Farmer instruction manual and on-site training by seed farming experts
